RECOMMENDED COOKBOOKS!

This is a Great Cookbook

November 18, 2005
Reviewer: Sally, Tennessee

I really enjoy cooking, but sometimes the thought of being in the kitchen for hours is a little too much to handle. Enter this fantastic cookbook that contains delicious, healthy and super fast meals. To be able to cook a good meal in the time it takes to defrost and cook a frozen entree in the oven is a real treat.

All the dishes that I've prepared from this cookbook have been extraordinary.

You can tell that they are all well thought out in that they are very tasteful and the tastes all compliment eachother instead of competing. (Thank you Rachael for your Creamy Polenta and Bolognese Sauce!)

Probably my favorite thing about this cookbook (besides the super fast meal prep) is the inclusion of carbs. I know that everyone is saying no to carbs, but I just can't say no altogether and finally someone (Rachael Ray) agrees with me: carbs in moderation is OK. This is an all around great cookbook and I'm glad to have it in my kitchen.

BEST for real life cooking!

Reviewer: Ginger, NJ

I've used the CookN software for about 3 years now, and I have to say it is the best! The technical support is fantastic -- yesterday's email question was answered within an hour.

This software has WONDERFUL recipes from the Current catalogs and calendars and other cookbooks, too. Real food for real people! I've added tons of my own recipes and haven't had a problem with incorporating them into meal plans and shopping lists.

The software is organized as cookbooks and chapters, just like the my books on a shelf with the added capability of searching across all or some of them for ingredients I have on hand. I agree with the other reviewer that the store categories were somewhat confusing, but it took all of 20 minutes to go in, edit all the categories changing them to aisle names in my store, and now I can print out a shopping list in the order I walk around the store. WOO HOO!!!!

I, too, have had the errors pop up where I had shut down inappropriately and corrupted some index somewhere. But, by downloading the latest updates (FREE!) and following the instructions on the website, I was back up and running in less than 15 minutes with all my old recipes intact. And, the new software promises this won't happen as much. As far as importing recipes, there is a freeware program available (Meal Master) that lets you read in MasterCook recipes from the internet and then you can upload them directly into Cook N. I was able to load 2 or 3 cookbooks full last night, in about 10 minutes (a cookbook at a time). Not too shabby!!! All in all, this one does it all. A glitch here and there maybe, but hey, I'm only human! :)

A must-have for every kitchen!

Reviewer: Lisa, Massachusetts

I have always had a Betty Crocker cookbook around. It was the first cookbook I took with me when I moved away from home, and it still remains the first book I grab for if I have *any* questions about a recipe I'm making. The book is great for cooks of all levels. It has a lot of great introductory information - how do you boil an egg? What are the different cuts of meat?

It provides a lot of easy recipes that taste delicious and are nutritious as well.

In addition, the book also eases you into many advanced recipes. Looking to cook a Thanksgiving dinner for the relatives? Trying to make a birthday dinner really special? This cookbook has the recipes for you, all easy to understand and with gorgeous photos. This version is definitely an improvement on previous versions as well. There is information on grilling and vegetarian meals, something lacking in the last versions. They've also added in a number of ethnic dishes that are quite tasty. If this book isn't on your kitchen shelf, be sure to buy a copy!

First Rate!!!
Reviewer: Jennifer A. Wickes "Food Writer"

Karri Ann Allrich has updated this book, and has changed the name to "Cooking By The Seasons". I decided, after owning this original cookbook for 2 years, and after seeing the revised version, that I would write a revised update of my book review, to remind people of what a great cookbook that exists out there!

This cookbook is divided into seasons. When I first became interested in eating with the seasons, I found this book to be an excellent advantage to actually offer menus for each season. Within each season, is a section for appetizers, main dishes, beverages and desserts. There are also sample menus for gatherings.

Despite the fact, I am not a vegetarian, I have enjoyed the recipes from this book as part of a more healthy approach to eating. Also, some of the main dishes can be utilized as a side dish for a meat-eater, or you can add meat to most of those dishes. All the dishes are easy to prepare, and the ingredients are easily found in any grocery store.

This cookbook does contain a goddess twist. There are Celtic festivals to celebrate and ways to honor a certain goddess with that dish. Even if you are not a Pagan, this book is exciting because the Pagans are known for living at one with the Earth. So, who better to find out what's in seasons and what meals to eat during that season, than a Pagan!

Examples of some of the delicious dishes you too can enjoy from this book are: Curried Stuffed Eggs, Golden Potato Soup, Roasted Vegetable Lasagna, Summer Garden Couscous, Southwestern Polenta and Garden Gazpacho.

Not Just for Vegetarians
Author: Geraldine Hartman

Reviewer: Elaine (Regina, Saskatchewan)

I would just like to say that since trying some recipes in this book, the food has become much more tastefull.

One recipe we tried was the Broccoli and Cheese Bake, my familly found this to be very very good, another one I would like to mention is the Cheddar-Cheese Muffins.
I did not have the unbleached flour or the Sea Salt, I was worried they wouldn't turn out, but I was wrong they were just scrumptious. There are many more recipes that I am waiting to try, vegetarian or not. I would like to thank the author for taking the time to publish a book that is good for everyone.
